A 20-year-old man has today been found guilty of the murder of a Derby father.

Karl Taylor was stabbed twice outside his home in Uttoxeter New Road at around 1.20pm on Sunday 8 December 2019, following a dispute about stolen alcohol.

Mateusz Maciejewski denied murdering Mr Taylor - but the jury at Nottingham Crown Court did not believe his version of events.

Maciejewski – along with his co-accused Gursimran Mann, Sahib Mann and Callum McConnell – visited Mr Taylor’s flat after the two Mann brothers had argued with him earlier that day about alcohol that had allegedly been stolen from the nearby Premier Store, owned by the Mann family.

When Mr Taylor opened the door to the four men 20-year-old Maciejewski stabbed him twice leaving him with extremely serious injuries.

The four then visited the Intu shopping centre where they bought new clothes before going for a meal together.

Meanwhile, 43-year-old Mr Taylor was rushed to the Queen’s Medical Centre but died from his injuries on Boxing Day.

Today (17 May) the jury at Nottingham Crown Court found Maciejewski, of Shakespeare Street, Sinfin, guilty of one count of murder.

Callum McConnell, 21, of Ednaston Avenue, Littleover; Gursimran Mann, 21, and Sahib Mann, 23, both of Hollowood Avenue, Littleover, were all found not guilty of the murder of Mr Taylor.

Maciejewski will be sentenced at a later date.

Detective Chief Inspector Sally Blaiklock, said: “Karl Taylor has been portrayed in this case as a violent and angry man, and whilst his family accept that he has not always shown patience or made the best decisions in his past, he was a loving father; grandfather; son; and partner to Lisa.

“He is terribly missed by them and I wish to pass my condolences to them and hope that they can take some solace in today’s outcome.

“Karl did not deserve what happened to him, the incident could have taken a very different path had the Maciejewski’s first thought not been to respond with violence and the use of weapons.”
